Hello, Mr. Bean!
Updated: Feb 2, 2022
People say that if a praying mantis appears an angel is watching over you. We live in the suburbs of Chicago and running across a praying mantis would be the last thing we'd would expect. However, we did and I am sure glad the mantis came to our house!
My son and I have been working on a 4 week research report on praying mantises. As he was finishing up his title and cover page, I looked over to our window. I saw a green insect, which I thought was a grasshopper at first, and called my son over to check it out. To both our surprise, it was a praying mantis hanging on our window sill in the rain!
We ran outside to see what was the matter and found him extremely cold and mantis looked exhausted, so we brought him in. As a family, we thought it would be nice to keep it for a few days, but we ended up keeping it forever because Fall was coming. According to our research, the mantises' life span is approximately 1 year. We thought maybe if we keep it inside it would live longer. It was official. The praying mantis became our pet. We named him Mr. Bean!
